Dead Desert - Demo Alpha Sept 2024

Welcome! to the first official public testing for License to Clone (Project name: Dead Desert). 

This is a huge game that's been in development for the last 4 years by one developer ( me! : )) and even then only 1/4th of the map is drafted thanks to the addition of a Level Editor (Artem!).

There is still a long way to go but I invite you to try the latest demo we'll be releasing in the Steam Next Fest!

I hope you can get creative, do things we've never seen before and have fun learning and tackling this unforgiving world we've crafted.

For help and getting started, or just to come say hi... Don't worry we don't bite.... But we do tend to perform cruel experiments on our clones.

  • Beast caller / Charmer - Animals and Mutants are your allies and help you overcome obstacles
    
    
  • Void Walker - You are able to step into another reality for powerful abilities, look inside anyone's inventory, remove items at will. Even their body parts.
    
    
  • Mechanic - You command nanites and technology, you are able to hack doors, switches and more remotely.
    
  • Trader - Your abilities allow you to change the form of your goods, reducing or increasing their weight, size and value.

Step 1. Getting Started

Jump right in and select a new start or take a look at the settings that are available in the full version of the game.

Step 2. Pick starting abilities

Pick some abilities that speak to your playstyle, use our unique skill tree to start off with any ability you can afford and then work around the tree. Use mutations debuffs as jump off points to unlock skills for much cheaper, but face the repercussions of your mutations.

In the demo:

• Get aid from animal followers by calling them to your aid
• Defence abilities to slow down goes
• Healing abilities to speed up the healing process between battles
• Gigantism your body to overcome stronger foes
• Void peering and void looting, look inside any container from a distance and loot it

Step 3. Learn the controls

The whole game is controlled with just the mouse, sit back and relax while clicking around as you explore, attack and defend in the open world.

Fights happen in front of you and you can watch the status of everyone involved, if it's looking a bit too hot you should hastily retreat.

Step 4. Speak to people around, find quests and work

Find people of interest to speak to and pickup new work. Within the starting labs are 1-2 quests and in most the major cities you can find a quest or two.

The more quests you complete the more the world changes.

In the demo:

• Hunt down and extract 5 species for Bob to extract DNA and fix the clone mutation issue once and for all.
• Start a quest to source a Sin Stone for the truth seekers so they can unlock the next stage in the mysterious quest.

• Resolve rivalries between local factions, including a rivalry between two barkeepers and many more.

Step 5. Review any quests

Review your ongoing quests and track them. If you need any help jump in discord and ask for help! Anything you ask about we'll be making changes to the game to streamline and we'll be adding more info to our guides as we go!

Step 6. Keep unlocking powerful abilities and mutations!

As you progress and get stronger, don't forget to spend your mutation points and unlock more abilities.

Notes:

Since this is just the feedback and testing project it will be known here as Dead Desert and this page will be retired after this testing period is over.
